RATIONALE FOR SILENT SUSTAINED READING
To provide regular quiet time in which students read material of choice to gain fluency, engagement, and ownership.
RULES FOR SILENT SUSTAINED READING
- Read something that interests you. If you need help finding material ask other students, the librarian, or your teachers for recommendations.
- Bring your book/reading material to CCE class every day. If you forget your book, make sure you go to our school library BEFORE your CCE class and select alternative material. Some teachers may have their own check out library. But do not count on this.
- No racist, sexist, pornographic or homophobic material.
- Text Rich Journals, Magazines, or Newspapers are okay. Check with the teacher to make sure the material meets this requirement. The teacher reserves the right to disallow the material if there are too many pictures or ads or if student is found to be merely looking at stats.
- Reading Class or Homework Material is okay.
- Doing class work or homework is NOT Okay.
- Assigned texts are okay as a choice, but writing or calculating are not permissible activities.
- No passes, no music, no talking, no phone calls, and no getting up from your seat during SSR.
