-Use Chromebooks to work on researching four different schools: a state school, a vocational institute, a private university, and a community college through Individual College Research for 20 points on worksheet.


-Use CIS, Naviance, College Board, or the college website to research your assigned college.

Finish Sample College Application
You will be exploring and reflecting upon the college application process.  You will complete the 2015 Common Application in class.
Then reflect upon the process by completing the glue in College Application Reflection.  When you are done check in with me.
You will then create a document using Google Drive.  You will use your answers from the reflection (#1-4) to write an essay.  Please see the College Application Reflection Rubric to understand how I will be grading you.
When you are done with your essay, share it with emccrackenferro@pps.net :)

For the next two class periods you will be exploring and reflecting upon the college application process.  Today, you will complete the 2015 Common Application in class.

  1. Show students the documentary, In 500 Words or Less (1 hour 36 minutes total; Esmerelda has start time)
  2. Ask students to take notes on this handout as they watch the documentary:  Film Notes/Qs
  3. After viewing, give students time to finish up their Film Notes/Qs handout, then discuss their responses and questions as a whole class.
  4. Turn in worksheet for 20 points

Objectives: Students will be able to learn about and reflect upon the college application process, including how to choose, apply for, and pay for college.
  • I can practice and reflect upon the process of completing a college application
  • I can learn about and reflect upon the different ways to pay for college
  • I can research and compare different colleges.
  • I can read and evaluate sample college application essays (OPTIONAL/SUPPLEMENTARY)
  • I can brainstorm different topics for my college application essays (OPTIONAL/SUPPLEMENTARY)


Introducing the College Application process:
